This is a home for all of the dancers from the Buddy Deane Era (1957 - 1964) to meet up and keep in touch. We will try to spotlight our memories and post highlights on upcoming events. We appreciate your interest.
I was a junior at City College when Buddy Deane exploded on WAAM-TV. Channing Wilroy, an early Deaner, was in my Geometry class and told me about tryouts. I wasn’t that great a dancer but I slipped by somehow and there I was, walking up that long hill every day. Looking back, I wish I had gone to more hops. That was the key to success and to getting to know Buddy better. After high school, I graduated from American University then served in the Army in Germany during the Viet Nam era. After discharge, I was lucky enough to get into graduate school at Stanford. I slipped by there too. I’m married now to the love of my life and live in Annapolis. I’ve spent my career as a clinical psychologist on the Eastern Shore but I’ve recently written and couple of mystery novels and have an agent who thinks I might have a whole new career ahead. I look back to those Buddy Deane days and feel lucky. I look forward to being a more involved Deaner now than I was then.
I just wanted to say just how fantastic is is that everyone from the Buddy Deane show has kept in contact, its very commendable that a group of people who were in their teens have kept in contact for almost 50 years!
Whilst doing research for a school play (Im Corny Collins in Hairspray and he is based on Buddy Deane) I stumbled upon this, and Im so glad I did because it has made my day.
